Safer Internet Day (SID), organized by the Insafe Network, occurs every February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially among children and young people across the world. The theme this year is ‘Play your part for a better internet!‘ with events and activities taking place worldwide.
Over the years, SID has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe Network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, SID has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide, and across all continents. From cyberbullying to social networking, each year SID aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues.
Many industry partners, institutions and other organizations support Safer Internet Day with awareness-raising events and activities, or resource launches, to help make the internet a safer and better place. This year SID is supported by corporations including AT&T, Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Lego and Yahoo.
Visit www.saferinternetday.org for events and actions conducted locally and internationally. Utilize multilingual resources empowering young people, their teachers and their families to make the best possible use of online technology. It is a space where leaders in the internet safety community can communicate with the public and exchange ideas, knowledge and experience with each other.
G2 Web Services supports SID, and we encourage all of our clients, peers and industry partners to get involved, and promote the safer use of technology. Join the conversation using hashtag #SaferInternetDay.
