Embrace the Shake: Transforming Limitations into Opportunities was the keynote address presented by artist Phil Hansen at the 14th Annual Midwest Acquirers Conference in Cleveland last week. His insights about overcoming obstacles were very thought provoking, making for one of the week’s best presentations. A key takeaway being that sometimes you have to look from a different angle to see what’s actually in front of you. The talk culminated in a portrait of John Lennon, pieced together by fingerprints taken from attendees.
The three days at MWAA featured an array of dynamic speakers from the merchant acquiring industry and an exhibit hall featuring the latest in payments and value added products and services.
Cleveland was a fantastic host city, from the opening reception at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame to special karaoke parties each night. The music kept us all having a great time. There were also so many amazing industry panels, networking occasions, informative sessions and opportunities to sit down for one-on-one meetings with industry leaders and our clients. There were also a number of breakout sessions that stand out as highlights.
Top Takeaways from MWAA 2016
In our conversations at MWAA, many discussions hinged around the changes in the payments industry, how compliance is a critical issue and how Transaction Laundering continues to be a headache for acquirers. A few great sessions that stood out to us:
The Compliance Workshop led by Deana Rich of Rich Consulting and Holli Targan, Attorney and Partner at the Law Offices of Jaffe, Raitt Heuer & Weiss. The content was extremely engaging, breaking down best practices for understanding and fulfilling compliance obligations. The crowd asked a number of questions on sanctions and why compliance continues to be a hot button for the payments industry. Deana Rich did a marvelous job answering countless questions the laser focused crowd had!
Sidenote: G2 is lucky to work with Deana Rich on a number of projects and we want to congratulate her on being awarded the 2016 Industry Achievement Award at the 14th Annual Midwest Acquirers Association Conference. Well deserved.
Another session, titled KYC – The Silent Killer was led by an expert panel that included Matthew Parker, executive advisor for ContractPal and Kim Olszewski, VP of Operations for iStream Financial Services. Speaking to the ongoing challenges of maintaining KYC programs, Kim Olszewski focused on ways that banks can more efficiently protect themselves using vendor solutions. Matthew Parker further acknowledged that along with a credit score, G2 data is a critical part of every underwriting and monitoring process in the industry.
Big thanks to everyone that we had the opportunity to meet and discuss risk solutions. We are looking forward to the MWAA Conference in 2017. If we missed you at the event, please get in touch with us at email@example.com.
